August 6, 2020

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency awarded Purdue University nearly $800,000 in research funding to develop a computer model to help determine whether a chemical may cause neurotoxicity.

“EPA is proud to support the university’s innovative research to advance our knowledge of how exposure to chemicals affects the brain,” said EPA Region 5 administrator Kurt Thiede. “Accurately and efficiently evaluating the safety of chemicals will improve our ability to protect public health.”

The project is one of five to awarded to teams across the country and will help predict potential hazards without using traditional methods, which rely on animal testing.
