IDEM seeks to improve electric vehicle infrastructure

December 17, 2019

The Indiana Department of Environmental Management is seeking public input on ways to improve Indiana’s electric vehicle charging infrastructure.

IDEM and the Indiana Volkswagen Environmental Mitigation Trust Fund Committee will use the public’s responses to inform the state’s investment in the electric vehicle industry and ensure adequate infrastructure for electric vehicle users in Indiana.

The Crossroads of America Electric Vehicle Corridor is a proposed project that includes electric vehicle charging stations placed in 50-mile increments along major Indiana highways such as U.S. 31, U.S. 41, I-70, I-69 and I-465.

The funding for the project comes from the Volkswagen Environmental Mitigation Trust Fund, which was established following a lawsuit against Volkswagen A.G. for pollution from Volkswagen diesel vehicles in Indiana, according to Indiana Energy.

The public comment period will be open until Jan. 3. For more information about the Volkswagen committee and electric vehicle project or to submit a comment, click here.
