A volunteer-driven solar energy organization will hold a workshop June 22 in Indianapolis to train Hoosiers how to start solar power initiatives in their own communities.

Solarize Indiana is a network of volunteers that engages homeowners and businesses across the state, giving them the information and contacts they will need to transition to solar energy.

The group holds public information sessions, then provides contact with installers who can help homeowners convert their home to one powered by solar energy.

The organization says it was able to increase the number of solar installations across the state by 20% during its first six months of operation in 2017. It has led solar installation efforts in at least 16 Indiana communities.

The workshop will be held on June 22 from 10 am to 4:30pm at Englewood Christian Church, located at 57 North Rural Street in Indianapolis.

The workshop is open to everyone. You can e-mail the organization to reserve a spot or register online.
