Cook Medical is encouraging Bloomington residents to recycle electronics during its upcoming community recycling day on June 26. The free event will allow residents to recycle electronic waste like old computers, televisions, phones, gaming consoles and other home appliances.

“It’s vital to recycle electronic waste properly, as electronics and their batteries can contain harmful chemicals that can contaminate the water and air. This is especially true of older electronics, which may have harmful substances such as mercury,” said Cook Medical’s Hannah Chudleigh.

Chudleigh said Cook Medical hopes to collect 210,000 pounds of e-waste this year after being unable to hold a recycling event in 2020 due to the pandemic. Recycle Force and Big Boys Moving will assist with recycling and moving materials during this event.

These organizations help formerly incarcerated individuals rebuild their lives through workforce training and development.

“Cook is excited to host this event. This electronics recycling effort, as well as our partnerships with Recycle Force and Big Boys Moving, are part of our promise to invest in the communities and environments we serve.”

The event will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.June 26 at the Cook Profile Park Facility in Bloomington, located at 500 N. Profile Parkway.
