Evansville, IN — On Thursday, Evansville shattered a nearly century-old temperature record as the mercury soared to 100 degrees Fahrenheit in the afternoon, breaking the previous high of 98 degrees set back in 1925. This historic heatwave marks the highest temperature recorded in Evansville on this date in 99 years.

Residents won’t have to endure the extreme heat much longer, as relief is on the way. While Friday’s forecast remains hot with a high of 94 degrees, cooler temperatures are expected over the weekend. Saturday’s high is forecasted at 83 degrees, with Sunday slightly warmer at 85 degrees—both below average for this time of year.

This heatwave comes amid a significant dry spell for the region. Evansville has not experienced measurable rainfall since August 2, marking a 27-day streak, the eighth-longest in the city’s history. Even Fort Wayne booked a similar record.

Looking ahead, the weather is expected to become more comfortable as Labor Day approaches. Highs on Monday are forecasted to reach 82 degrees, with similar conditions expected on Tuesday (81 degrees) and Wednesday (82 degrees), offering residents low humidity and pleasant weather for the upcoming week.
