COMMENTARY: CLARIFICATION FROM INDIANA TRAILS, EVANSVILLE TRAILS COALITION and BETTER TRANSIT NOW

Existing U.S. 41 bridges between Evansville IN and Henderson KY are deemed by I-69 ORX project managers as unsafe for bicyclists and pedestrians--and there are no current or planned connections over the Ohio River between the Evansville trails/greenway network and the expanding Henderson network via the planned Interstate-69 Bridge or the current U.S. 41 bridges. We believe the reference by officials to "existing bicycle and pedestrian access on either SIDE of the bridge" is confusing, as it refers to separate systems north and south of the Ohio River that are physically kept apart by the waterway and do not approach existing or planned bridges. The Draft Environmental Impact Statement specifically states that the proposed new I-69 bridge will not allow bicyclists/pedestrians.
