September 4, 2020

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency said it has completed an assessment of all the Texas and Louisiana Superfund sites that were in the path of Hurricane Laura.

The EPA said it inspected 76 National Priorities List Superfund sites in counties and parishes with federal disaster declarations and found only four required further inspection.

Hurricane Laura made landfall near Cameron, Louisiana as a Category 4 storm. The Louisiana Department of Health said 15 people died during the storm, including 8 deaths attributed to carbon monoxide poisoning through improper generator use.

The storm also destroyed parts of Louisiana’s power grid.
