New EPA Tool Lets Hoosiers See PFAS Found Around the State

January 10, 2023

A new U.S. Environmental Protection Agency website lets Hoosiers see occurrences of PFAS chemicals around the state.

An interactive website called the PFAS Analytic Tools compiles information on PFAS chemicals gathered from federal, state and industrial sources and places it at one spot where the info can be mapped and viewed in charts.

The site contains drinking water sampling data from 59 public water systems collected by the Indiana Department of Environmental Management, data from Superfund sites and other sites overseen by the federal government, data submitted by industrial sources and data from the U.S. Department of Defense.

According to information on the site, three facilities reported being PFAS chemical manufacturers or importers; PFAS was detected at one Superfund site, the Gary Development Landfill; 14 federal sites have known or suspected PFAS presence; and four spills involving PFAS chemicals have occurred since 1994.
